There’s a common misconception that any car older than a certain age automatically qualifies for collector car insurance.
The truth is, classic car insurance is designed for collector vehicles that fit the “collector vehicle lifestyle.” That typically means the car is in good condition, driven on a limited basis and not your daily-use vehicle.
It has never been easier to qualify for collector car insurance with J.C. Taylor. In the spirit of preserving history, J.C. Taylor insures a wide range of collector vehicles, from stock antiques to muscle cars, vintage luxury cars, replicas and many more. To qualify for coverage, all vehicles are subject to our classic car insurance requirements listed below. If you’re not sure if your vehicle qualifies, please check out our FAQs and feel free to contact us.
To qualify for our collector car insurance program, vehicles must be:
• At least 19 years old. (In Texas, vehicles must be at least 15 years old, and in Massachusetts, vehicles must be least 25 years old).
• In restored or good, original condition — generally free of rust, dents, damage, poor paint and heavy wear.
• Stored in a fully enclosed, locked garage (or similar structure) when not in use.
• Used primarily for hobby purposes, such as club activities, parades or other functions of public interest. Taking the car for a drive to “give it some exercise” or simply to enjoy it is perfectly acceptable and considered part of the hobby. We allow unlimited mileage for hobby use.
• Free from accessories such as tow balls, tool boxes, bed caps, bed racks, winches or plow attachments (though exceptions are occasionally made).
• Free from roll cages, nitrous oxide systems and/or substantial suspension lifts. Vehicles with these features are generally ineligible for coverage.
To qualify for our collector car insurance program, drivers must:
• Be at least 25 years of age (in most states)
• Have a good household driving record with no more than one moving violation and one at-fault accident in the past 3 years. Serious violations beyond 3 years may be subject to an underwriting review.
• Have a fairly modern vehicle for their daily transportation needs.
